Youth Services

The Youth Services Officer runs and organises youth activities and groups for 11-24 year olds in the Wollondilly Shire. This includes running Drop In, School Holiday activities and community events. The Youth Services Officer also provides information to youth and families on services and activities and can support young people in a number of ways. One of these is by assessing the needs of young people and advocating for and providing services to meet those needs.

The Adolescent Support Worker supports young people 12-24 years of age who are dealing with homelessness or other issues. He can help you to:-

  • Make plans and set goals in areas that are causing concern
  • Address any issues which may be associated with, or contribute to homelessness
  • Communicate with parents and other family members where disputes are affecting relationships
  • Access accommodation and health services
  • Find out about entitlements with other community services such as Centrelink, Legal Centres, Health Departments, Counsellors and Court
  • Manage self esteem and anger issues which are causing a problem in your life

Drop In Arvo is an afternoon youth group run in partnership between Community Links Wollondilly and Burnside Macarthur Reconnect. The program provides a safe space for young people to socialise and connect with Youth Services and is held in the Tahmoor Youth Hub. Activities include learning guitar, playing pool, Wii, footy, cooking or making t-shirts. This activity is for 11-18 year olds and runs from 4.00pm-6:30pm on Tuesdays (girls group) and Wednesday (boys group)

Rock and Water
Rock & Water was developed in Holland and has been successfully delivered in many Australian Schools. Students develop self control, self reflection and self confidence using physical and social skills. Rock and Water programs can be run in schools and the Community and is for 11-24year olds.

Drumbeat
Drumbeat uses African djembe drums with a mix of music therapy & social learning to help young people develop focusing skills, team skills and self confidence. Drumbeat programs can be run in schools and the community and is for 11-24 year olds.

Koori Flow
The Koori Flow Program uses cultural workshops to increase Aboriginal young people’s understanding of their culture and identity. Koori Flow is being run in a number of high schools across Wollondilly, Camden and Campbelltown.

Warrayites
The Warrayites is a monthly youth group run in partnership with Warragamba/Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre. The group seeks to provide fun social activities to young people and to build connections to youth services. Activities include BBQs, art/media workshops, outings, sports and more. This activity is available to 11-24year olds.

School Holiday Activities
We provide a range of activities for Wollondilly young people and families during the school holidays. Activities can include bus trips, ice skating, art/photography workshops. Activities are open to 11-24 year olds.

Youth Events
We can help young people organise events such as skate comps and band nights.

Resume Writing
One-on-one support for writing resumes. You will need to phone to make an appointment with the Youth Services Officer.

Educational/Vocational Workshops
We can organise a whole range of workshops to meet education and training needs of young people. Previously these have included first aid training, art and photography workshops and a film workshop for community safety.

Information and Referral
We can provide information and referral to other youth services and programs. Phone or drop into the Tahmoor Community Centre.
